Parrots, macaws and parakeets are intelligent and inquisitive birds, and it is essential for the bird(s) to have bird toys which are the equivalent to the educational and instructive toys one would buy a toddler or child; these exotic birds need constant stimulation, and are always nosey and inquisitive by nature.
As well as ensuring the bird food that the parrot is fed is of the highest quality, and that any bird stands sourced for the bird are comfortable and varied (they are on their feet virtually 24/7) it is extremely important that an intelligent bird such as the parrot, macaw or parakeet is given bird toys that stimulate, intrigue and have puzzles that need to be solved.
This doesn’t mean jigsaw puzzles or Rubik’s Cube puzzles to solve, but toys similar to the Natures Instinct Barrel of Fun Bird Toy stocked and ready for immediate delivery from perch and Squawk bird supplies.
This toy is an interactive puzzle made for small to large parrots. The basic premise of the puzzle is that the bird figures out how to solve the puzzle by twisting the barrel open to retrieve bird food treats hidden inside.

Bird stands are equally as important as the bird’s diet; a comfortable design with several varied positions gives the bird opportunity to shift and change position during the course of the day.
General bird supplies such as bird baths, water mist sprays, shower grooming perches and mirrors for the bird to wonder just who the other handsome guy is are essential for the general well being of the parrot or exotic bird.
In the care of a human the bird is, after all, not in its natural habitat, and the care and attention to detail lavished on the animal will ensure its continued good health well being.
For good health and general wellness of the animal, it cannot be stressed that along with good diet, a stimulating environment with as many puzzle toys as possible, comfortable stands for the bird to perch on, regular visits to a veterinarian for checkups and advice on all aspects of a bird’s health are essential.
Remember too that the weather in many parts of the US is cold and the days short, and internal central heating in a home dries the air; parrots originate in warm, humid climates and need to be kept not just warm, but in a humid environment too. Regular spraying with a fine mist of water will work wonders on their plumage and exposed skin.
Parrots, like humans, need moisturizer from time to time.
