Griesbaum Singing bird box BEFORE RESTORATION video # 1

This is a circa 1950′s Karl Griesbaum # 19 singing bird box. The bird is missing nearly all of the feathers, the bellows is completely missing, the bellows pump arm and all of the tiny screws that hold the movement to the case, and the case top to the sides are all missing as well. Even with a full winding, the mechanism moves very sluggishly. It is gummed up with old dehydrated oil and dirt, and it is possible that it will also need a new mainspring to restore the power required to pump the bellows and move all the tiny levers that activate the bird, lid, and whistle. The case top is coming apart and will need to be cleaned and resoldered. The oval lid will not close but rather just hits the bird’s head at the end of the song, so the little bird cannot retreat into its hideaway as it should. The little bird will not stand upright for more than about a second, and that means that the wings, beak, and tail cannot function properly.
