Are Stainless Steel Bird Cages Worth The Cost?
Posted: Dec 14, 2010 |
]]>
It can be hard to look past the price of a stainless steel bird cage when considering a new home for your pet, but the benefits of the cage really make up for the price. Stainless steel is incredibly easy to clean, very stylish, and durable enough to keep Sylvester away from Tweety.
Cleaning any kind of cage can lead to hassles. Not only is there rust to worry about but there’s also the damage scrubbing can do to painted cages. Stainless steel takes away those problems leaving cleaning a simple task. The material doesn’t rust and there’s no paint to scrape off. When you’re done cleaning a stainless steel cage it’s just as beautiful as it was brand new.
These types of bird cages are very beautiful. They come in incredible designs and the color is much more natural than those of painted cages. The metallic color they have goes with anything so your bird cage would match just as well in your living room as it does in the bedroom. Get the right lighting and this type of cage could almost light up the room it’s in.
While cleaning a cage and having something that isn’t an eyesore is great, keeping your bird safe is top priority. Cages made of other material can be very flimsy leading to bent cages and even broken locks. These cages are very sturdy and won’t bend as easily as other cages. They’re especially useful for households with other pets such as cats where a bird could potentially be in danger inside a cage that’s not structurally sound.
Another type of bird cage stand is a base that holds a bird cage. This is usually used for smaller cages and allows them to sit higher in the air. This also makes the cage a bit more mobile, as the stand can be moved from room to room. It can even be moved outside to give the bird more variety in its environment. Without this variety, a bird can become bored and unhappy.
A bird, no matter what size, can easily be a beloved pet if not a part of the family. A cage made with this type of steel is the best bet for a happy and healthy bird.

Do You Need A Dog Crate? Read This First
Dogs, like people, enjoy having a space they can call their own. This is possible for them with a dog crate and kennels. It is more common to use a pet crate when your dog is inside the house and to use kennels when your dog is outdoors. If your dog is going to stay outside for long periods of time, and especially if you do not have a fenced in yard, you will need a dog kennel to keep your dog safe and comfortable.

Pet Bird Canary

]]>
The Domestic Canary is a domesticated form of the Wild Canary, a small songbird in the finch family originating from Madeira, the Azores and the Canary Islands.
Canaries were first bred in captivity in the 1600s. They were brought over by Spanish sailors to Europe. Monks started breeding them and only sold the males (which sing). This kept the birds in short supply and drove the price up. Eventually Italians obtained hens and were able to breed the birds themselves. This made them very popular and resulted in many breeds arising and the birds being bred all over Europe.
The same occurred in England. First the birds were only owned by the rich but eventually the local citizens started to breed them and, again, they became very popular. Many breeds arose through selective breeding, and they are still very popular today for their voice.
They come in many colours such as; yellow, orange, brown, black, white, and red. 1 in 65 wild canaries are naturally red.
Varieties
Canaries are generally divided into three main groups: Colorbred Canaries (bred for their many color mutations – Ino, Eumo, Satinette, Bronze, Ivory, Onyx, Mosaic, Brown, etc.), Type Canaries (bred for their shape and conformation – Border, Fife, Gloster, Gibber Italicus, Raza Española, Berner, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Norwich, Australian Plainhead, etc.), and Song Canaries (bred for their unique and specific song patterns – Spanish Timbrado, German Roller, Waterslager (also known as “Malinois”), American Singer, Russian Singer, Persian Singer).
Competitions
In the Northern hemisphere, Canaries are judged in competitions every fall.Shows generally begin in October and November after the breeding season ends. Birds can only be shown by the person who raised them. They all have unique bands on their legs that indicate the year of birth, the unique band number, the club to which the breeder belongs. Some song-breed canaries are judged later in the year (January).

Parrots are like to having a small uneducated child, and can be more demanding at times. It is advisable to know what to expect with their bad habits issues, and all transitions they will must definitely go through.
Believe me, there is a stack of them, your life will be a lot easier if you invest a small amount of time learning about parrot behavior, trust me on that 1.Below are some common problems you WILL have, their is also advise on what to do when they do pop up.
Parrots are not the type of bird for the faint hearted, you wouldn’t just wake up 1 day and say “oh I think I might go buy a parrot”. There a bird that needs a lot of attention and love, and very much so, “lots of patience”. So I’m guessing you have 1, or are serious about getting a parrot and want to know all about them so you can get the best out of him/her.
Firstly I won”t gloss this up, they can adapt very bad habits such as:
* Screaming
* Biting
* Feather plucking
There are PLENTY more this is just for starters
My parrot pretends to limp and there is NOTHING wrong with his foot. He also has thrown fits which cost me $500.00 in vet bills, guess what? Nothing wrong with him.
Now these habits aren’t because he hates me, most of the time it’s out of jealousy, or he want more attention. So if you know why your bird is doing these things you have won half the battle.
Never ever consider getting a parrot unless you get parrot training dvds, ” parrot books” . Its way easier to get step by step guidance with parrot training a sight easier then just guessing the problems, these parrot training dvds will ensure you know how to stop the annoying habits, such as biting and get him on the right track.
Parrot Training is not hard once you are shown how, he deserves a chance to be in your good books, he doesn’t deserve to be given away just because YOU don’t know how to handle him.

Knowing When Your Dog Needs Disposable Dog Diapers
Many people think that disposable dog diapers are only for dogs that are very old or sick, but this is not always the case. Some dogs have incontinence problems due to being very nervous, medical conditions, or smaller than normal bladder. Other dogs may not be able to feel when they have the urge to urinate and therefore, end up “going” in the house, which can become very frustrating.

The Benefits of a Foam Bed for Your Dog
Unlike us humans, our four-legged, furry companions do not sleep for eight hours at a stretch. As the dog ages they will need to have more sleep and will need a place that is not only comfortable but also warm to ease those age-associated problems like aching bones and muscles.

Bird Dander Problems?—5 Ways to Minimize Pet Bird Dander

Bird dander is so small it is invisible to the human eye, but it is a very real threat to the health of both birds and humans. These minuscule particles flake off to make way for newer, healthier skin, and will continue to be an issue for as long as your bird is alive.
However, constantly sending such a huge amount of particulates into the air can cause the air to become unhealthy. The following 5 suggestions will help you keep your air healthy by greatly reducing the dander.
Offer Bird Baths: I once met a lady who described a bird bath as throwing some water in the air and running from under it. Even though that may appear to be a pretty accurate description of what you pet does, offering your bird the opportunity to clean itself with warm water is one of the best ways to get rid of dander before it can become airborne.
Some will love having a bowl of tepid water placed in the cage for baths. You and your bird might enjoy showering together with the help of a shower perch. The water pressure should be set to misting so that it does not frighten or injure their wings. You are the best judge of which method your feathered friend will enjoy better.
Make sure baths are done early enough during the day before cooler nighttime temperatures set in. This avoids the risk of chills. Check with your veterinarian for the healthiest frequency.
Clean the Cage Regularly: A complete cleaning at least once a month will really help clear the air. Particles can stick to bars of the cage, the underside of the cage roof, and to perches and other toys.
Taking the cage outside for cleaning and sanitizing will eliminate particles that are invisible to the eye. Sanitizing the cage will kill bacteria and virus that often attach to particles which can and often are easily inhaled.
Control Your Numbers and Make A Careful Choice: If you are dedicating a small space for the bird room, keep the number that you adopt small. Having too many in a cramped area makes living conditions nearly impossible to keep healthy. One or two birds make a smarter decision.
And whereas all birds create dander, there are powder down birds such as Cockatoos, African Greys, and Cockatiels that drop a white powder as well. If you are still in the process of deciding, give careful thought to whether you want to add to the clean up with a bird that generates bird dust as well as dander.
Clean Smarter: The thought here is to trap the pollutants rather than fan them into the air. Mopping and dusting surfaces with a damp cloth is preferable over sweeping or dusting with dry cloths. Always vacuum with a cleaner that traps pollutants securely without letting them escape. Equipping your room with easy to clean surfaces such as tile, wood floors, blinds, shutters and easy-to-clean fabrics and furniture will help.
Filter the Air: Unless you actively remove particulates from the air, pollutants will continue to build in the air and make the air thick for you and your bird to breathe. For your pet this can mean clogged air passages which very often lead to disease and infection that is hard to reverse.
For humans the increase in airborne particles causes flare ups for allergy and asthma sufferers and can trigger respiratory issues to begin.

Feeding Your Parrot: Do’s & Don’ts

Making your new parrot comfortable and relaxed with their new surroundings is a must. A popular misconception on bringing new birds home is that they are not eating because of their new surroundings. Since they are scared, try giving them different treats until you find one they like. You can then move on to different food that your parrot in particular will like.
The proverbial saying “Polly wants a cracker!” is true in a sense. Crackers are a favorite of parrots but try putting a small amount of honey on the cracker first, and your new bird will love it. This will help the parrot feel comfortable and think that this new place is alright. It’s also better to use salt free crackers as too much salt in a parrot’s diets is not good for them and should only be given in small amounts.
Be sure to keep clean, fresh water daily in order to help get them comfortable. Parrots will play with their food or just be messy in general. They don’t like things in their water any more than you would. Sometimes, it may be necessary to change their water several times a day.
The cage will need 3 removable trays for food and water. One will be for water, one for dry food and one for other types of foods. Make sure the trays are cleaned daily to avoid bacterial contamination. Even dry seeds, if left too long in the food tray can become sour and make the parrot sick.
Purchasing less than desirable food for your pet will not make the parrot eat it. Parrots are finicky eaters so you just have to keep trying different types and combinations for your particular parrot. Many parrots require quite a bit of nutrients, including vitamin A for their immune system; phosphorus and calcium to prevent calcium deficiency and protein. Fruits, some dairy, vegetables and even some meat are now being recognized as essential to the proper diet of parrots.
Parrots need to be feed twice daily and needs to resemble natural foraging habits to ensure a healthy eating schedule. The best time to feed parrots are just after dawn and just before dusk. This will sometimes alleviate the problem of not eating. Parrots may very well like the food he is being given; however, it’s just not the right time.
Keep small amounts of seeds or pellets handy for the parrot to munch on during the day, but only put fresh fruits, fresh vegetables or cooked beans into the food tray morning and night. You will need to adapt to the parrot’s schedule instead of your own.
Refrain from feeding too much junk food to your parrot. While they may like pretzels, pizza or popcorn, the amount of salt, fat and calories are not good for them and then they will not eat the healthier foods at mealtimes.
Parrots are extremely attuned to the owner’s attitude to some foods. If the parrot senses that the owner doesn’t like a certain vegetable or combination of vegetables, the parrot may not like it either so be sure to make yourself comfortable with feeding parrots “people food” as well as nuts.

7 Foods That are Deadly to Your Parrots
When parrots were first keep as pets, people thought they only lived a short time. This was in part because most of the soft billed wild birds only live a few years but also because the parrots they kept die within 10 years or so. This was because the diet these parrots were being fed did not supply the necessary nutrients and the birds basically starved to death very, very slowly.
